Adam Levines tips on how to become a famous singer and over all star
So is Adam just a singer in a band or something more. Donna Freydkin of USA TODAY had this to report:
“I have a high self-opinion — I don’t need to hide that. I don’t need to be self-deprecating,” Adam says. “I do believe that I deserve what I have. I don’t think I’m entitled to it. That’s a big difference.”
Levine, 33, doesn’t pretend he’s dateless or recovering from a tormented adolescence.
So Adam has a few character traits here. He believes in himself, he doesn’t run himself down and he doesn’t seem to suffer from the victim mode many fall into by consistently replaying less than positive thoughts and feelings about the events of their youth. And can you get a handle on the difference between deserving and entitled too?
Entitled implies you don’t need to do any work for some kind of return, where as when you deserve soemthing it’s because it’s in response to good works you’ve done. So I guess he’s a bit of a worker but perhaps not in all things.
“My mom told me a long time ago — she didn’t know she was giving me this advice — but she said, ‘All I know is, you’ll never change, so you’d better get somebody to take care of your room and get a housekeeper.’
That was burned into my skull: ‘Must make money so I don’t have to do my chores, because I wouldn’t do them anyway.'”
Now you would never of seen that as a positive motivator would you, but I guess we all choose which way we respond to events and labels we’re given, and Adam is not someone to be tied down to a set of labels.
He sings with his band Maroon 5, which has a new album, Overexposed, out today. He mentors on the reality talent competition The Voice, which became a runaway hit for NBC; the third season premieres Sept. 10. He acts in Ryan Murphy’s secretive second season of American Horror Story this fall, and he’ll play Keira Knightley’s boyfriend in Can a Song Save Your Life? And the hater of celebrity scents is creating a fragrance called 222.
Despite appearances to the contrary, Levine says he’s not building a one-man brand.
“It’s not about me thinking how I am going to build my empire. It’s about trying new things,” Levine says over lunch with bandmate James Valentine at the Mercer Hotel in Soho. “I don’t want to be an actor, but why not take these opportunities when they come to you? I’m not killing myself auditioning, chasing that dream. They thought of me. That’s cool. There’s a certain ebb and flow to life, and I’m trying to follow that. It’s worked so far.”
So is he just a lucky guy or is it something else. The luckiest people I know all say they created their own luck from a constant flow of regular action. But is Adam that kind of guy?
There was no ‘plan’
Even here, where celebrities are as common as food carts, Levine pulls a baseball cap down over his face. He has gone from being music-famous to famous-famous, with legions of admiring female fans who mob him. Like so many entertainers, Levine had no concept of how intense that level of fame was until he was knee-deep in it.
“The level of success the band had before the show was fine. I didn’t do this with the idea or the designs to become more famous. That was never part of the plan. I thought it was different and I’d give it a shot.
“I had no idea what it was to be on television. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. And now that I’m there, I don’t regret any of it. However, it takes a lot of adjustment. You do have to watch your back.”
It sounds like along the way Adam has been open and curious and responded to opportunities as something fun and different. These have so far turned out to bring his career to new and different heights. But does this mean he will begin a solo career and leave Maroon 5?
Yes, Levine has an abundance of self-confidence, but that doesn’t translate into a desire to go out on his own. “There will never be a solo record. I would sooner have another band.”
So what about his approach to the very competitive environment of being a voice and singing coach on The Voice. Is Adam still as go with the flow as he seems to be in most things? Or is he the go-getter that’s got to win under any circumstances?

“I don’t think it’s important to win TheVoice. It’s important to choose a team of the best singers, not compete with anybody and make each person on your team the best they can be. I’m not going to play the game anymore. I’m just going to do right by my team.
“Every moment of the show, on my end, will be creative, fun and easy. It’s a healthier attitude to have. The best way to win is by discarding the competition.”
So Adam yet again shows his temperament of being a big team player with the only competition being a competition with yourself, to be the best ‘you’ you can be and support others to the same end.
It sounds like quite a rare quality these days but it is one that you can’t help but admire Adam for it.
So what does Adam do outside in his everyday life:
To stay sane, Levine says he does yoga. He’s close to his family. And he says everything he develops in business is propelled by passion, not finance.
Now this does sound somewhat different to the original compelling factor that he cheekily mentioned about what his mother said to him, but doing a thing for love and passion rather than a big payday does have a different effect.
And from all angles it seems to be working for both Adam and Maroon 5, so Adam Levines tips on how to become a famous singer are quite deep wide and varied but a lot of the main keys are in the tone and attitude with which he approaches life and singing as a whole.
