Even the actresses Anne Hathaway, Dee Hoty, Glenn Close and even Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin D Roosevelt were all in choirs.
Now not everyone on this list became famous singers but they all became famous leaders and performers of one description or another.

How to become a better singer and performer
Press-citizenshares a set of auditions in Iowa. Now you may not be anywhere near Iowa but the idea is there. Read what’s available
here and see what’s avaialbe near you:
In preparation for its 42nd season of performing the best in choral music, the Chamber Singers of Iowa City will host auditions from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 6 and Aug. 7 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2301 E. Court St. in Iowa City.
If you love singing great choral music and have some experience — perhaps you haven’t sung for a while but would like to return to it — now’s your chance. If you’ve been to a Chamber Singers concert and would like to sing with a chorus that presents a broad range of music from around the world, keep reading.
Chamber Singers music director David Puderbaugh has a special affinity for Estonian music, and the Singers have presented several works through the years by composers from the Baltic region. Pärt’s “Berliner Messe” combines his personal spirituality with traditional tonal music, minimalist music and tintinnabuli (like the ringing of bells, accomplished with the voice). The Mass includes two Alleluia verses and a setting of “Veni sancte spiritus,” which makes it possible to use it for various times throughout the liturgical year.
The auditions last 10 minutes and include a range check, a pitch-matching exercise, sight reading a short piece and singing a short solo a cappella. For the solo, a single verse of a favorite song or hymn works well.
Now the Chambers Singers may or may not be something that interests or suits you. Even Glee style choirs and groups. The beauty and magic of working with others performing music in a choir with a director and coach really does bring out a whole new level of pitch, harmony and performance magic that is much larger than yourself. A choir automatically subjects you to a singing coach and a group of others that enjoy singing and want you to perform the best you can too. You’ll find your confidence coming on in leaps and bounds.
The practice is precise, conducted and beautifully measured. When it comes to soulful music the list of singers that originally started singing in a choir is near endless. Famous choir singers include: Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Whitney Houston and Beyonce.
So if you want to know how to become a better singer, and want instant access to a voice coach joining a choir is a very rewarding choice to make.
